Grace has always been a little bit unusual, but the people in her small town have learned to accept her. Things change when she wakes up one day suddenly able to talk to animals . . . and understand what they're saying in return.

Her parents, friends, and the townsfolk don't know how to react. To be sure, there are upsides: Farmers can communicate with their livestock. Interspecies conflicts can be mediated. And the local veterinarian has a much better rapport with his "patients."

But as her abilities grow, not everyone is happy with the truths she reveals. Some people hate what Grace's newfound skill for communicating with the natural world might mean for them . . . and will stop at nothing to put Grace back into her place.
